The Vision Statement of Franciscans International

We Franciscans,

Men and women, who are committed to the ideals of Francis and Clare of Assisi,

are convinced that all creation, from the smallest organism to human beings,

is in interdependent relationship on planet earth.

We are aware

that this relationship is threatened by a refusal to admit this interdependence,

by exploitation and by domination.

We commit ourselves to encourage awareness of this interdependence

so that all creation may live in harmony.

We will contribute to this through rendering service to our own members

and to the personnel of the United Nations as well as to others

through education and accelerating the progress of the following themes:

Ecology - Environment,

Peacemaking Methods - conflict resolution.

In all these efforts we shall try to collaborate with the personnel of the United Nations

and other non-governmental organizations.

Our efforts will reflect Franciscan values concerning

the Care of Creation, Peacemaking and the option for the Poor.

These are the same concerns as expressed in the Charter of the United Nations

and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
